Established under the Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) of the Ministry of Education (MOE) in April 1986, ICCES was moved to its current Ministry, the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations by cabinet decision in 1994. Both learners and neo-literates are making good use of these books.Ĭurrently, there are two hundred and seventy-five (275) literacy classes in the Region made up of batches 16 and 17 classes. Media officers in charge have been trained accordingly to produce and broadcast programmes for classes in the catchment areas of stations on a sustainable basis.Īgain, all the districts have book boxes fully stocked with supplementary readers. Seven of these groups have benefitted from the NFED credit support. Prominent among them are bee-keeping, soap making, cassava processing, farming, animal rearing, bead making, oil extraction and nursery. There are a number of Income Generating Activities going on in the region. The Region has two major occupational activities, namely fishing and farming and can boast of a number of natural resources, such as timber, gold, bauxite, manganese and diamond. The population is 2,376,021 according to the 2010 population and housing census. It also shares borders on the West with Cote de Voire. It shares common borders with Central Region, Ashanti Region, Eastern and the Brong Ahafo Region. The Western Region is located in the western part of the country.
